How To Create an Inventory

SciNote's inventories can be used to track samples, reagents, instruments, and more.

To create a new inventory in SciNote, click the Inventories icon, then click + New Inventory, enter a name, select a template, and click Create.

Follow the steps below to create a new inventory:

  1. Click the Inventories icon from the navigation panel on the left side of your screen.

  2. Click the blue + New Inventory button.

  3. In the dialog, enter a name for your new inventory.

  4. Select an Inventory Template (see options below).

    Note: Inventory templates are a SciNote Premium feature. If you are on the Free plan, select Default to proceed with an empty inventory.

  5. Click Create.

Don't see the + New Inventory button? You may not have the required permissions — only Workspace Owners can create inventories.

After you create an inventory, you can start customizing the columns and adding items. 

Inventory Templates

When creating a new inventory, you can choose from a set of pre-built templates that include predefined columns tailored to common inventory types. These templates help you set up your inventory faster and provide inspiration for structuring your data.

  • Each template includes preset columns and configurations, such as:

    • Status columns with predefined status options

    • Expiry date columns with reminders enabled

  • You can view the included columns by clicking the info icon next to the template name during inventory creation.

  • Inventories created from templates are fully customizable — you can edit, remove, or add columns at any time.

Template options:

  • Default – Starts with an empty inventory (no predefined columns)

  • Cell Lines – Columns suited for storing cell line data

  • Equipment – Columns for managing lab equipment and maintenance

  • Chemicals & Reagents – Columns for tracking chemicals, reagents, and storage

 

Once your inventory is created, you can begin customizing the columns and adding items to match your workflow needs.

Inventory templates are a SciNote Premium feature. To unlock templates, request a quote to upgrade your plan.
