Local Network Access (LNA) Permission Prompt in Chromium-Based Browsers
Starting with Google Chrome version 141 and Microsoft Edge version 143, Chromium-based browsers will begin prompting users to grant or deny access when a website tries to communicate with local devices on your network.
This is part of a new security feature called the Local Network Access (LNA) permission prompt.
This change may affect how SciNote connects to Zebra label printers and the SciNote Edit desktop app.
When You'll See the Prompt
You will see the “Local Network Access” prompt when SciNote attempts to connect to a local device, including:
-
Zebra label printers
-
SciNote Edit desktop application
This prompt appears in:
- Google Chrome version 141 and later
- Microsoft Edge version 143 and later
Example of prompt:
-png.png?width=670&height=423&name=image%20(20)-png.png)
Blocking this permission will result in:
- Zebra printers not appearing in your printer list in SciNote
- Uploaded files no longer show the "Open in ..." option on desktop apps (will behave as if SciNote Edit is not installed or running)
If you accidentally blocked access or want to change your settings:
-
Open SciNote in Chrome or Edge
-
Click the padlock (🔒) icon in the browser's address bar
-
Choose Site settings
-
Locate the “Local Network Access” permission
-
Set it to Allow
-
Refresh the page
Who Is Affected?
This change applies to all SciNote users, including:
-
SciNote Cloud users
-
SciNote On-Premises users
And applies across Chromium-based browsers, including:
-
Google Chrome (v141+)
-
Microsoft Edge (v143+)
