How to Configure the Session Timeout

How session timeout works:

The timeout is inactivity-based, not a fixed period from sign-in. The countdown resets each time the user interacts with SciNote.
The default inactivity timeout is 3 hours.
When the timeout is reached, the session ends and the user is returned to the login screen. Any unsaved changes should be saved before stepping away.

How to set the session timeout

Navigate to the Settings.
Go to the Organization section.
Locate the Session timeout setting in the middle of the page.
Select or enter the inactivity period you want to apply to your organization.
Save your changes.

The new timeout applies organization-wide to all users the next time their session is evaluated.

Only an Organization administrator can view and change the session timeout. Regular users are not able to see or edit it.

This feature is available on the Platinum plan only.

A shorter timeout increases security by reducing the window in which an unattended, logged-in session could be misused, but it asks users to log in more often.
A longer timeout is more convenient but leaves sessions open longer. Choose a value that reflects your organization's security policy and the environment your team works in (for example, shared lab computers usually warrant a shorter timeout).

Note: The session timeout governs inactivity for standard sessions. Single Sign-On (SSO) behavior is managed by your identity provider and may follow its own session rules in addition to this setting.

How to Configure the Session Timeout

The session timeout controls how long a user can stay signed in to SciNote while inactive. When the inactivity period is reached, the user is automatically signed out and must log in again.
