My Disappeared — Where Did It Go?

In SciNote, missing content is almost always still there — usually archived, in a different Team or Project, hidden by your permissions, or replaced by a newer version. Because SciNote is built for data integrity and traceability, very little can actually be deleted, so your data can nearly always be recovered. Work through the checks below.

 

Most "lost" items turn out to be archived or in another workspace. 

1. Is it archived, not deleted?

To support data integrity and traceability, most items in SciNote can only be archived, not deleted — Why can't I delete things in SciNote?

2. Look in the Archived state

Archived items live in a separate view from your active work:

  1. Go to the relevant page — Projects, Experiments, Experiment or Inventory page.
  2. Open the state drop-down menu in the middle top of the screen and switch from Active state to Archived state.
  3. Locate your item in the archived list.
  4. To bring it back, select the checkbox next to it and choose Restore from the menu at the bottom.

 3. Check whether you're in a different Workspace

Your work is organized by Workspace, and content in one workspace won't appear while you're viewing another. If an item is missing, confirm you're in the right one:

  1. Check your current Workspace on the top left corner next to the SciNote/Your Company logo.
  2. Switch to another Workspace and look again.
  3. If you expected to see a colleague's project, see How can I view projects from another workspace?

You can also search across your work using SciNote's Global Search.

4. Check whether it moved to another Project or Experiment
  1. In the Projects area, use the function Look inside folder
  2. Click on the right the filter icon
  3. Type the project name
  4. Scroll down in the widget until you fin the option
  5. Click Search

5. Is it an older version, or a removed file?

If the content itself changed or a file vanished from a Task, it may be recoverable through version history:

SciNote only shows you content you have access to. It isn't missing, just hidden from your view:
